Terms and Conditions for Gift Certificate Purchases on Tilbod.is

1. General Provisions
Tilbod.is is operated by Salt Strategy ehf., kt. 481117-0890, Galtalind 26, 201 Kópavogur (hereinafter "Tilbod.is"). Tilbod.is operates a digital marketplace platform where users can purchase electronic gift certificates that independent sellers ("Seller") issue and offer for sale.
These terms apply to all purchases of gift certificates on Tilbod.is and define the rights and obligations of the Buyer, Tilbod.is and the Seller.
By purchasing a gift certificate on Tilbod.is, the buyer ("Buyer") accepts these terms. If you do not agree to the terms, you must not make a purchase.
Tilbod.is operates solely as a technical and commercial intermediary. Tilbod.is is not a party to the contract for delivery, performance or fulfillment of the product or service that the gift certificate covers and bears no responsibility for the quality, availability, redemption or fulfillment of the gift certificate.
2. Parties and Contractual Relationship
Seller
The Seller issues the gift certificate and bears full responsibility for its content, quality, delivery, performance, validity period and all terms related to the gift certificate. The Seller is also responsible for fulfilling all legal obligations towards the Buyer.
Buyer
The Buyer enters into a direct contract with the Seller when purchasing a gift certificate. The Buyer is responsible for familiarizing themselves with the Seller's terms before the purchase is confirmed.
Tilbod.is
Tilbod.is provides a payment and ordering platform and handles electronic delivery of gift certificates. Tilbod.is is not responsible for the Seller's fulfillment. If the Seller ceases operations, becomes bankrupt or defaults on the contract, it may result in the gift certificate becoming unusable. In such cases, Tilbod.is has no refund or compensation obligation unless otherwise required by mandatory law.
3. Gift Certificates – Content, Conditions and Limitations
A gift certificate gives the holder the right to receive the product or service that is specifically stated on the gift certificate or on the Seller's product page on Tilbod.is.
The Seller's terms apply to the redemption of the gift certificate and may include:
- Validity period and expiration date of the gift certificate
- Booking requirements and usage restrictions, including exclusions during peak periods ("blackout dates")
- Definition of the scope of service, number of guests or what is included
- The Buyer is responsible for familiarizing themselves with the Seller's terms before the purchase is confirmed.
Gift certificates are non-transferable unless otherwise specifically stated by the Seller. Misuse, forgery or alterations to the gift certificate lead to invalidation.
4. Purchase Process and Acceptance of Terms
The Buyer selects a gift certificate on Tilbod.is and proceeds to the payment process.
Before payment is completed, the Buyer must confirm that they have read and accepted these terms and that Tilbod.is operates solely as an intermediary.
After payment has been received, the gift certificate is sent electronically to the Buyer's registered email address and delivery is then considered to have taken place.
The Buyer is responsible for correct registration of the email address. Tilbod.is is not responsible for incorrectly registered email addresses or reception problems that can be traced to the Buyer's email service.
5. Payments and Payment Security
Payments are made through a secure payment gateway. Tilbod.is does not store full card information and all card transactions are made through an encrypted connection in accordance with PCI DSS standards.
Due to the nature of electronic gift certificates, the amount is charged immediately upon confirmation of payment.
In disputes regarding payments, such as duplicate charges or technical errors, the Buyer must contact Tilbod.is in writing without delay.
6. Delivery and Redemption
Gift certificates are delivered electronically by email after payment has been approved.
Redemption takes place with the Seller in accordance with their terms and within the specified validity period.
Tilbod.is is not responsible for booking restrictions, sold-out dates or the Seller's refusal to redeem due to breach of terms.
7. Refunds, Cancellation and Legal Remedies
7.1 General Rule
Gift certificates are considered digital credits with a fixed value. As a rule, it is not permitted to withdraw from a purchase after delivery of the gift certificate unless required by mandatory consumer legislation.
7.2 14-Day Right to Cancel
The Buyer has the right to cancel the contract within 14 days of receiving the gift certificate, provided that: the gift certificate has not been used and its redemption has not begun with the Seller. Cancellation must be in writing and reach Tilbod.is within the 14-day period. Refund is made using the same payment method used for the purchase, unless otherwise agreed.
7.3 Seller Default
If the Buyer does not receive the delivered product or service due to Seller default within the gift certificate's validity period, the claim must be directed to the Seller. Tilbod.is can assist with communication but bears no financial responsibility unless it is a matter of its own technical or payment error.
7.4 Technical Errors
Tilbod.is refunds purchases if a verifiable technical error occurs at Tilbod.is, such as: duplicate charge, payment without delivery of gift certificate.
7.5 Expired Gift Certificate
If a gift certificate is not used within the validity period, the right to a refund lapses.
8. Gift Certificate Purchased as a Gift
If a gift certificate is purchased for a third party, the Buyer is responsible for providing correct information about the recipient. Tilbod.is is not responsible for delivery if an incorrect email address or phone number is provided.
9. Privacy
Tilbod.is processes personal information in accordance with Act No. 90/2018 and GDPR. Information is used to:
- Process orders and payments
- Send receipts and gift certificates
- Send marketing emails or SMS with consent

10. Information Liability
Tilbod.is strives to publish correct and updated information but reserves the right to correct obvious errors. If such errors affect a purchase, the Buyer will be offered the option of a refund or correction.
11. Limitation of Tilbod.is Liability
Tilbod.is is not responsible for the quality, availability, legality or performance of the Seller's product or service. Tilbod.is's total liability towards the Buyer is limited to the amount paid in the relevant transaction.
12. Seller Tax Liability
The Seller bears sole responsibility for tax liability, accounting and issuance of receipts for gift certificate redemption.
13. Changes to Terms
Tilbod.is reserves the right to change the terms at any time. Updated terms take effect upon publication on the website.
14. Law and Jurisdiction
These terms are subject to Icelandic law. Cases shall be brought before the District Court of Reykjavík unless mandatory consumer legislation provides otherwise.
